Arkansas Hunting Land Information

The Natural State is a playground for outdoor enthusiasts of all stripes, from hunters looking to bag wild turkey and deer; to birders hoping to spot some (or all) of the state’s 400 species of birds? including endangered Red-cockaded woodpeckers. Other popular activities include kayaking on flashing white rivers or mountain biking trails that wind through forested mountainsides lined with Ozark beauty like giant trees rooted deep in rich loamy soil known as “the Yearks.

Frequently Asked Questions

How has deer quality in Arkansas improved over the past decade?

Arkansas deer quality has skyrocketed recently because hunters and landowners have embraced quality deer management and the state has put antler point restrictions in place on Wildlife Management Areas. The river bottom land in eastern and central Arkansas has always grown big deer, but now the Ozark and Ouachita regions are seeing much older, heavier-antlered bucks. The state allows hunters to take multiple deer over a very long season, but private landowners who strictly manage their buck harvests are now growing deer that rival anything coming out of Missouri or Tennessee.

What does hunting land cost per acre in Arkansas?

Across most of the state outside the Delta, general hunting and timber land runs $1,000 to $2,500 per acre. If you want prime Delta duck hunting land, you are looking at $2,500 to $6,000 per acre, depending on how close it sits to the White River and how good the water control infrastructure is. River bottom deer properties that already have food plots and good land roads cut through them command $2,000 to $4,000 per acre. Because it is so much cheaper than Iowa, Illinois, or Missouri, Arkansas is a premier destination for buyers wanting great hunting without spending millions.

What non-resident hunting license options does Arkansas offer?

Unlike Iowa and several other Midwest states that force you to wait years in a lottery draw, Arkansas keeps it incredibly simple. Out-of-state hunters can just buy a combination license and all their deer tags over the counter every season. This is a massive selling point for non-resident buyers because it means you can buy a farm and hunt it on opening day without waiting for the state to give you permission. If you want to hunt ducks, you just need to add a federal duck stamp and a state waterfowl license to your basic hunting setup.
