Mossy Oak Properties presents a unique opportunity for outdoor enthusiasts to own a piece of Hawkeye State’s beautiful natural landscape. Iowa is known for its rolling hills, scenic rivers, and vast expanses of farmland, providing ample opportunities for a wide range of recreational activities, including hunting, fishing, hiking, and more. It is well known for its strong agricultural industry. Iowa is one of the top producers of corn and soybeans in the United States, providing ample opportunities for property owners to generate income from their land.

Another reason for owning recreational property in Iowa is the state’s central location in the United States. This makes it an ideal location for those who want easy access to other parts of the country, as it’s within driving distance of many major cities, including Chicago, Minneapolis, and St. Louis. Plus, Iowa is home to a range of unique attractions, including historic landmarks, vibrant cities, and charming small towns, providing endless entertainment opportunities for residents and visitors alike. Call Mossy Oak Properties to inquire about the available properties.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the Iowa non-resident deer tag system work?

According to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, the state has one of the strictest hunting lotteries in the country for out-of-state hunters. Non-residents can buy archery tags, but the state caps the number and they sell out incredibly fast. If you want a shotgun or muzzleloader tag for a buck, you have to enter a lottery draw that can take years to win. If you do get lucky and shoot a buck, you are legally banned from applying for another buck tag for two full years. The state built this strict system specifically to stop wealthy out-of-state hunters from wiping out the big deer, which is exactly why Iowa still produces so many massive bucks.

Which Iowa counties produce the best trophy whitetail deer?

According to the Boone and Crockett Club harvest records the absolute biggest deer in Iowa come from the southern counties, where rolling hills, thick woods and huge farm fields all smash together. Ringgold, Decatur, Wayne Davis, Monroe and Appanoose counties constantly pump out record book bucks. The counties in the southeast corner, like Van Buren and Wapello, also have massive concentrations of trophy deer. If you want to buy hunting land in these counties that mixes creek bottoms with cornfields and sits far off the main road expect to pay 4000 to 8000 dollars per acre.

Does owning Iowa land give me any advantage on deer tags?

No, it actually does not. According to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, simply owning land in Iowa does not give a non-resident any special treatment or guarantee them a deer tag. You still have to enter the exact same lottery draw and wait the exact same number of years as a guy who just wants to hunt public land. However owning the land guarantees that once you finally do draw that tag you have exclusive access to prime private land that public hunters cannot touch which is why out of state buyers are still willing to pay massive premiums for Iowa hunting land.
