DeHart was selected for his extensive work with the North Carolina Marine & Estuary Foundation in their red drum tagging project. The project is providing the researchers with an invaluable understanding of stock structure, spawning migrations, and habitat preferences of adult red drum.
Bryan DeHart said, “Working on the red drum satellite tagging project with the NC Marine and Estuary Foundation is kind of a dream come true for me. I would have gladly done it, regardless of whether it qualified for any awards but being recognized for the Fist Full Of Dirt Award is special. The fact that my daughter got to help me with such a valuable conservation effort makes it that much more special.”
