Fredricks sound and Stephens passage are popular Humpback whale watching areas. Trumpeter swans winter in the Blind Slough area as well as up to 240 other bird species that visit the island throughout the year making it an excellent bird watching location. Le Conte bay is a popular harbor seal pupping area and home to the popular Le Conte Glacier and Stikine icefield; and as with most parts of Alaska there's the bears. The Anan Bear observatory is home to black and Alaska brown bears. Mitkof island is also home to Moose, Black tailed deer, Mountain goats, Wolves and more. and last but not least public land access allows for hundreds of miles of hiking and biking trails with lake access and waterfalls.
