Description

Historic 89+/- Acre Farm Estate in Halifax County, VA – Craftsman Home, Private Pond, River Access & More

Discover a rare opportunity to own a legacy farm rich in heritage and natural beauty. Nestled in the peaceful countryside of Virgilina, VA, this 89+/- acre estate offers a perfect blend of history, functionality, and modern comfort. With a renovated 1937 craftsman-style farmhouse, a private spring-fed pond, access to the Hyco River, and multiple barns and outbuildings, this property is ideal for farming, recreation, or simply enjoying the rural lifestyle.

Renovated 1937 Craftsman-Style Farmhouse

This historic 2-bedroom farmhouse is a true architectural gem, featuring original 1937 Bogalusa oak flooring, heart pine upstairs, and large farmhouse windows that fill the space with natural light. Original beadboard porch ceilings painted in classic haint-blue and solid wood doors speak to its timeless Southern roots, while tasteful updates throughout ensure modern efficiency. The kitchen boasts new stainless steel appliances (2024), a new tankless water heater, and a 200-amp electrical system. New dual-zone heat pumps and a metal roof (2023) provide long-term value and peace of mind. A renovated laundry room and updated bath add to the home’s comfort and everyday convenience.

Scenic Land & Outdoor Features

The land itself is a dream – rolling pastures, wooded pockets, and a large, spring-fed pond stocked with bass, catfish, sunfish, and more. The fields once used to raise Gelbvieh and Angus cattle lead you to the nearby Hyco River, which opens the door to fishing, kayaking, and camping adventures on Kerr Lake. The fields and woods also offer ideal habitat for deer, turkey, and upland game hunting.

Functional Farmstead & Historic Outbuildings

Multiple outbuildings support a working farm operation or hobby farm lifestyle, including barns, equipment sheds, and a sawmill used until recently to process lumber from the farm itself. This working infrastructure, along with fertile soils and established pastureland, provides an excellent foundation for livestock, gardening, or sustainable farming.

Prime Location with Access to Recreation & Culture

Located just over an hour from Raleigh, NC and equidistant from Clarksville and South Boston, VA, the farm combines privacy with proximity. You’ll find boat launches for Kerr Lake within minutes, along with Occoneechee State Park and historic Buffalo Springs. Enjoy local events like Clarksville’s Wine Festival and Lakefest or explore South Boston’s art scene, brewery, and live music venues.

A Rare Chance to Own a True Virginia Legacy

This property isn’t just a farm – it’s a storybook setting for the next chapter of your life. From fishing in the pond at sunset to porch-sitting under a sprawling sky, this is the kind of place where memories are made and traditions are kept. Get To Know the Area:

  • Visit Clarksville, VA: Clarksville is the only lakeside Virginia town. It is home to several restaurants, from Cooper's Landing (which hosts seasonal foods, indoor and outdoor dining, live music, weddings and events) to the Pizza Pub, a long-standing place to eat, socialize, and shoot pool. Coming soon is The Fish and Pig – a famous BBQ and seafood restaurant whose original restaurant began in Farmville, VA. There are numerous quaint shops and clothing stores, including a tailor who can handmake suits and outfits from top to bottom. Each year, Clarksville hosts the Wine Festival in the spring and the 3-day Lakefest in the summer. Lakefest's most exciting events include hot air ballon rides and fireworks over the lake. The gathering of the boats come just before the fireworks; a definite site to see. The streets are closed off on Saturday and food vendors and craftspeople gather to sell their best. There are always several live music events during the festival.
  • Test the Waters at Buggs Island Lake: Buggs Island Lake, spanning nearly 49,000 acres, is a top fishing destination with abundant largemouth bass, catfish, striped bass, crappie, and white perch. Anglers can reel in bass in the upper lake and creek arms, while artificial habitats and seasonal water levels create prime fishing conditions. The Factory Street Brewery crafts their own beer and hosts numerous community events with live music, trivia nights, food trucks, and indoor and outdoor dining. The Prizery is also in downtown South Boston that includes an art gallery, local theater productions, and also brings such culture as the Richmond City Orchestra, famous puppeteers, art classes, and even summer art classes for children.
